Communication and engagement strategies to ensure your change efforts work.

About Kristy Payne Consulting

Born at the intersection of an insatiable appetite to do good for the world and a desire to collaborate with a diverse range of individuals and organizations, kp consulting was born.

kp offers a unique combination of organization development services that are underpinned by strategic communications.

Organization Development is the process of enhancing an organization’s effectiveness and overall health. It involves planned efforts to improve various aspects, such as structure, culture, systems, and processes, with the goal of fostering real positive change and long-term success.

Essentially, it’s about making the organization better and more capable of achieving its goals.

Many well intentioned change and organization development efforts collapse because they were not grounded in strategic, audience-specific, and integrated communications and engagement. This is where kp can help.

With over 20 years’ of experience building and leading communications strategies to engage humans on change, issues, policies, campaigns and more, kp knows how to listen, assess, and communicate for understanding. kp will work hand in hand with clients to unpack almost any organizational challenge that aspires to do better by its employees, its community, and/or the world.

Areas Of Expertise

Strategic Communications

Your communications Swiss Army knife. Strategy. Messaging. Issues management. Brand storytelling. Employee communications. Thought leadership. Campaigns. And more. I’ve done it all and want to help you determine what would be the best approach for what you are trying to achieve (or avoid).

Change Management
I am your seasoned guide in transforming challenges – or perceived challenges – into opportunities. Let’s prepare, implement, and enjoy the ride to sustained organizational shifts.
Organization Development

A broad topic and an oh-so-crucial one. Your organization’s effectiveness and health through planned efforts tackling structure, culture, systems, and processes. I have experience and passion for this work, so let me help.

Social Impact Strategy
The art of doing good with a plan. I love turning positive vibes into measurable wins for both society and your organization. I also have great insights about partnership strategies to help you do this.
Strategic Planning
I want to help you transform the ostensibly serious task of navigating your organization’s future into an unexpectedly enjoyable venture. Can it become a playground for creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving, injecting excitement into routine tasks? Oh yes it can.
Community Engagement

I will help you plan and execute the active involvement of individuals and groups in meaningful dialogues, feedback, and collaborative actions to address local issues and foster shared well-being. I’ll also help make sure it is aligned with your broader objectives and that the communications strategy is sound.

Leadership development & Employee Engagement
Let me help you find the heartbeat of your organization. The way you engage your people is the spark that ignites workplace brilliance, fuels passion, innovation, and collective success.
Culture & Purpose Transformation
A combination of all the other services listed above working in concert – essentially how you do things around your place with an understanding of why. Some of you will be brave enough to say you need a culture re-set where we’ll unpack it all and some will want to focus on one piece of the pie at a time, which is okay too. I’ll help you get there.

About Kristy

Founder & Principal Consultant

Kristy (she/her) has over 20 years’ experience creating impact through communications, change management, and public engagement. A professional track record grounded in human connection, strategic pragmatism, and trust, Kristy approaches her work and partnerships with candour, commitment, and as often as possible, fun. She’s a quiet connector of people and ideas, a purpose-driven culture builder, and a systems thinker.

From small business to public-sector, to consumer packaged goods, to not-for-profit, to consulting, Kristy has untangled issues, set plans, and connected the dots to achieve a variety of targets in many environments. As a former Director, Vice President, Chief Communications Officer, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, she’s delivered results and been accountable for a P&L; fundraising revenue; influencing and advocacy campaigns; brand development; integrated communications; diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging;  human resources; business strategy; community engagement; youth leadership programs and more. As a result, Kristy understands the pressures for leaders and teams at all levels and is an experienced advisor to CEOs.

Kristy has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta, a French language certificate from Laval University, a Masters in Business Administration from Queen’s University and a Masters Certificate in Organization Development from York University.

Her work in international development (human rights and gender equity) and general passion for the world have taken her to over 50 countries. She speaks French, has studied Italian, Spanish and German; however, only in times of distress or for comical relief does she become fluent in the latter three.

Kristy identifies as mixed-race and was born and raised in the Edmonton area of Alberta on Treaty 6 territory, the traditional lands of First Nations and Metis peoples. Kristy’s father is Black with Cherokee and Irish ancestry and her mother is white with first generation Canadian parents settling from Ireland and Germany. Kristy lived in Toronto for 15 years and is currently residing in the northern Sunshine Coast of British Columbia in the qathet region on the traditional territory of the Tla’amin Nation (City of Powell River) with her husband and two daughters.

Over her career, Kristy has been fortunate to work with, and for, some incredible brands (and people!)

Let’s connect, human to Human.

I express my deep respect and gratitude to the Tla’amin peoples upon whose traditional and treaty territory my business and family reside. These gorgeous lands have been stewarded by Tla’amin people since time immemorial. I commit to working against the systems of oppression that have dispossessed Indigenous people of their lands and denied their rights to self-determination.
